I've been busy scrapping, so I'm going to take a break from the CHA pics and post a couple of recent layouts.

I think I mentioned a few posts back that 2009 is the Year of the Layout for me. For the past couple of years I wasn't doing a whole lot of personal scrapping in favor of some more important family/household/personal stuff that needed attention. The only scrapping I was doing was meeting deadlines --finishing store and class samples.

So, for 2009 every time I sit down at my work table, I'm trying to put at least one SB page or layout ahead of the other "required" stuff. I was surprised to find that I've gotten a bit rusty at working with my own with-photos-pages. To try and describe that a bit more specifically - last week when I sat down to scrap, it felt completely alien. As if it was something I'd never done before. I think that is a phenomenon known as losing your "mojo". In any case, I've joined a bunch of online challenges to help me get my SBing groove back.

One of the challenges was a "Use a Kit" challenge at Willow Traders, the idea being to dig in to one of your kits and actually USE it! I chose to work with the December Studio Calico kit that I had won at WT. I really loved working with this kit! It had yummy Crate Paper, Pink Paislee and Making Memories, with other fun stuff from CI's Creative Cafe, Maya Road and of course exclusive Studio Calico products. I added some Thickers and MM alpha stickers for my titles.

Here are a few of my layouts (featuring some pics by the fabulous Shawn from our family session last summer). This first one is based on a layout sketch by a DIFFERENT Shawn, and was featured at The Scrapping Spot (the week 42 sketch).




The second layout was my own design, but those last two are basically from the same sketch - a scraplift of a layout by Sandi Minchuk (at Scrapperie). I didn't realize until after I'd finished that last one that I'd even lifted her title (sorry, Sandi --must have been subliminal, oops!)

This week, I have to switch gears to get my class kits finished for the coming weekend, but I'm also working on a couple of altered projects that I hope I'll be able to finish soon. ETA: I received my kit (woo hoo!) and have updated this post. Turns out I actually got the December kit instead of the January kit, that I mistakenly expected. Makes no matter to me, because it is still a rocking awesome kit!

I just loved how this turned out - it can be used as a mini album by adding a simple ribbon closure, or it makes a great stand-up photo display. It's two-sided - here's what the other side looks like:

As I mentioned in my previous post below, I wasn't able to make up a batch of these as I had planned, so I'm doing them on a 'pre-order' basis. By the way, these are not kits. Rather, they are completely finished projects. You will receive what you see in the photo.

The cost is $12. a blip in the CHA transmittal

Well, I had to interrupt my CHA pic posts for a quick trip to Scrapbook Expo in Costa Mesa. My friends Allison and Lisa and I booked a room at a hotel and spent a night scrapping our hearts out. We stayed up WAaaaay too late (3:30am) then got up early for our day at Expo. I was pretty wiped out when we were done. I hardly remember Sunday at all, as I crashed and burned pretty hard after 3 days at CHA and then the 2 days at Expo.

Since then, I've been immersed in making kits for the upcoming Silly Old Bear class at Scrappin Good Times (this Sunday already --wow, where does the time go?) I was able to expand the class and accomodate the people on the wait list (woo hoo!) and also put together an alternate version of the class for 3/9. The new class is called "In the Pink with Pooh & Piglet" and is very similar to the original, but in a different album and with more pink touches. Here's the cover:


I'll get back to my CHA pics soon. I think I'm going to give up on editing them tho. There are just *SO* many of them and so little time. There are probably so many pics from CHA up now that mine are an afterthought anyway.

cupcake scrapshop

I am in love with a fabulous kit club, Cupcake Scrapshop. This is a kit that I have been ogling for sometime now. It's one of those clubs where everytime the new month's kit debuts I look at it and it seems like it was put together just for me.

So, I bought one a la carte a few months ago and it is wonderful. I don't remember what month this is from, but here's a layout from the kit with a few of my own stash goodies (sorry, the title is kinda wonky from my picky scanner):


So recently I took what seemed the logical and inevitable next step, and put my name on the waiting list (sub list was full). I'm happy to say that as of this month, I'm a full-fledged cupcake member. Woo hoo!

aloha to "aloha, baby"

It's almost time to say aloha to the "Aloha, Baby" class. Before we do, I just want to let ya'all know that there are two extra kits up for grabs thru this weekend (first come, first served). I will be closing out the class on Monday and removing them from the store. I also left two add-on kits at the register in the hold files. The add-on includes one extra 6x8 pre-made page and two half pages (4x6). These are completely done and ready to be inserted into finished albums before binding.

The kit includes wire coil binding pieces to finish the 6x8 chipboard albums off. FYI, there is a binding machine in the store so you can bring your books back when you're done to close them.

Mahalo to everyone who was in the class. I had a great time teaching and hope you enjoy your books.

dancin' machine

Have you got a need to scrap dance photos? If so, be sure to check out my other blog. I have kits leftover from last week's "Gotta Dance" layout class at SGT. There are four different kits to choose from (two ballet/lyrical and two tap/jazz). The pages were designed to be as generic as possible so that they could be used for anything from professional recital portraits to personal photos to candid pictures from home.

The Good Time Girls rotate design responsibilities for monthly kits (scrapbook kits and card kits). I was up for a July card design. This card uses a motif from a patterned paper by Flair Designs so each card is slightly different. Everything in the kit is cut for you, ready to assemble.

a night to remember

My "A Night to Remember" paper bag album class was yesterday. What a great group we had! The class went very smoothly and we even finished up on time (my new goal!)
